ELECTRICAL KNOWLEDGE IS REQUIRED IN ORDER TO PERFORM THIS CONVERSION SAFELY. POTENTIALLY LETHAL VOLTAGES ARE PRESENT. PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FULLY BEFORE COMMENCING.

KIT CONTENTS: POWER SUPPLY, 4 WAY TERMINATED CABLE, RUBBER GROMMET, HEAT-SHRINK, IEC MAINS LEAD.

TOOLS REQUIRED: SOLDERING IRON, PLIERS, ALLEN KEY, SOLDER, ELECTRIC DRILL, 10mm DRILL BIT.

Configure the PSU for 310V output i.e. 2 white wires from the mains transformer.

DISCONNECT THE AMPLIFIER FROM THE MAINS BEFORE BEGINNING.

If the unit has been used recently, allow sufficient time for the power supply capacitors to discharge before beginning (5 mins is usually sufficient).

This is a two stage conversion. Stage 1 disables the on-board high voltage supply and connects the new off-board supply. Stage 2 enables remote switching of the new supply from the amplifiers on-off switch.

Stage 1.
Drill a 10ml hole in the back of the amplifier or use an existing hole if there is one, fit the rubber grommet supplied and feed the 4-way umbilical chord into the amp.

Connect the RED wire to Pin 8 of the OCTAL (GZ34) valve base. Make sure that no other connections to this point are disturbed.

Connect the GREEN wire to the -ve terminal (usually coloured Black) of the large electrolytic can type capacitor furthest to the back of the amp.

4. Short out R21. This can conveniently be done by connecting the (Red and Yellow?) +ve terminals of the same capacitor together.

Stage 2.
Connect the YELLOW cable to Pin 4 of one of the EL84 valve bases and the BLUE cable to Pin 5 of the same base.

DO NOT REPLACE THE GZ34

Dress the new cables tidily and connect the newly installed umbilical lead to the Border Patrol supply. Replace the mains leads to both units. Switch on and amplifier should be ready to play after about 30 seconds. Good listening.
